Try these tips and tricks to mitigate security threats on your digital devices (Such as Computers, PC, Laptops, Tablets, Smartphones, Routers, IoT devices, Smartwatches, Smart TVs, Printers, Sound boxes, Projectors, Cameras, DSLRs, CCTV, VR, & more)

  1. 2FA, OTP via Text/Mail/Call/Apps, Fingerprints, Face lock, Retina/Iris scans, Voice recognition, USB Pendrives, Smart Cards, Backup Codes, Other Passkeys (MFA is very hard to break, so enabling 2FA lessens cyber threats).
  2. Password, Pattern, PIN, Answers to Security questions (These are Traditional methods to alleviate threats).
  3. Back up your whole system data in the cloud & on-premises. Also, keep a physical hard disk and keep a copy of device data on the hard disk.
  4. Regular Softwares/Firmware/Middleware/Apps/OS Updates & Upgrades.
  5. Passwords, Patterns, PINs, and Answers to Security questions should be changed frequently (minimum 3-month interval).
  6. Always try to change the Default password provided by the vendor after using it one time, such as routers, IoT devices, and more (In the attacker’s password leak list, there is a high chance of default password leakage, and in password guessing attacks, default passwords are considered more vulnerable also).
  7. Don’t use the same password for every account because if one gets hacked, attackers might use the same credentials to access other accounts.
  8. Use Total Security Software, Antivirus Tools, VPN, Internet security, Device Optimizer, and Password managers for supreme protection (Also Enable Firewall/Full-disk encryption on your device).
  9. Don’t connect to Open and Free WiFi/Bluetooth/charging ports.
  10. Don’t use Pirated/Cracked/Counterfeit Software.
  11. Use genuine and Trusted open-source software and apps, and also try to install Play Store/App Store/Windows Store apps for more security.
  12. Try not to install 3rd-party apps if they are from unknown vendors.
  13. While using Remote desktop apps or FTP, be sure to use a secure path or tunnel.
  14. Try to avoid websites that lack HTTPS/Lock Symbol/TLS Protocols.
  15. Try to avoid accepting cookies from websites if they are suspicious or asking for more permissions. Utilize extensions like ad blockers and script blockers to prevent malicious code from executing automatically.
  16. Cover your webcam and mute your mic when you’re not using them
  17. Don’t click on suspicious Links/Messages/Mails/Chat or open/download/install attachments from unknown senders.
  18. Make sure no data is left on your Devices before you sell or dispose of them. You should consider using deletion software (File Shredder) or try to wipe all data 4-5 times so recovery software cannot recover your data.
  19. Set up parental controls on devices that Kids/Children are using, if possible.
  20. Review the permissions granted to your Devices’ Applications. Revoke access to your Contacts, Messages, Camera, Microphone, Location, and Storage if an app does not strictly require it for core functionality.
  21. Review your accounts Regularly/Occasionally, If you have time, check: Active sessions, Login history, Admin/User/Groups, Connected applications, Financial/Banking transactions, Password/PIN/Biometrics Lock-reset Notifications, New/Old device logins and removal, and Audit App Permissions.
  22. Increase your online privacy by removing your browsing history, download history, tracking cookies, cache, and other web browsing data.
  23. Whenever you are inserting USBs, Hard disks, CD/DVD, SD cards, cameras, or other external devices into your system, always try to do a hard security scan so any infected file will be detected and you will resist it
